The Dodge Ball Tournament is coming! by Dani

*It’s a Double Elimination Tournament.

*$1 per player.

*Kids sign up with Mrs.Draper(must have money with you to sign up!)

*You must sign up before the 21st for the 3rd and 4th graders.

*And by the 23rd for the 5th and 6th graders

*You have to be on a team of 5 or 6(only 5 will play at a time.)

*If you don’t have a team don’t worry because Mrs.Draper will assign you one.

*It’s on 22nd of April for the 3rd and 4th graders.

*And on the 24th for the 5th and 6th graders.

*The Tournament will start right after school at 3 o’clock, and will end at 4.

Third Grade News by Dani

This month 3rd graders are doing the Washington Assesment for Student Learning, or the WASL as most know. They aren’t just doing the WASL they are also writing Fantasy Stories. Mrs. Ray’s and Mrs. Richie’s classes are working on fractions in math, as well. In reading they are reading a story called “Chesnut Cove” and are focusing on Cause and Effect.

McDermoth Bookfair by Katlin

McDermoth is having a Bookfair. The Bookfair is in the Library starting the 13 of March through the 18 of March. On Thursday, the 13, the time you can be here is from 8 am to 3:30 pm. Friday, the 14, the times are from 8 am to 12:30 pm. Monday, the 17, the times are from 8 am to 3:30 pm. Friday, the 18, the times are from 8 am to 7 pm. McDermoth PTO sponsor this event. It is a great opportunity for students and staff to purchase some great books. Come check it out!

Fourth Grade are having their conferences starting the 17 of March through the 20 of March. There is no school for students on Friday, March 21.

Mrs Woodward’s Class
Mrs. Woodward’s Class is getting ready for the WASL. They are studing evaporation in science. They will have different stations set up for science.

Mrs. Templeton’s Class
Mrs Templeton’s Class is studing fractions in Math. They are also reading Fables. Ms. Barne’s is substituting for Mrs. Templeton for a while.

Mrs. Schmidt’s Class
Mrs. Schmid’s class is experimenting with water in science. In math they are studing fractions. Then in writing they are writing an autobiography.

Second Grade News by Molly

This week, second grade is learning about fractions. They have a nutrition class and next week’s lesson is fats and oils. Last Monday was the Last day of swimming for the second graders. This week for reading they are reading “ah music” as there story.

This Friday, March 14, is early release. Next week is conferences week with early releases and no school on Friday.

HOOP SHOOT NEWS by Vicki

On Monday, January 7th, at Miller Jr. High, the Aberdeen Elks sponsored with the Aberdeen Parks and Recreation a Hoop Shoot Contest. Contestants were from the school district.

McDermoth student results were:
8-9 year old Boys: Alex H. placing 3rd with 12 out of 25 baskets.
8-9 year old Girls: Emily W. placing 1st with 11 out of 25 baskets.
10-11 year old Boys: Aaron V. with 4 out of 25 baskets.
10-11 year old Girls: Ericka M. placing 2nd with 9 out of 25 baskets.
12-13 year old Boys: Grffin H. placing 3rd with 4 out of 25 baskets.
12-13 year old Girls: MaKayla B. placing 3rd with 7 out of 25 baskets.

Mrs.Templeton’s class
Mrs.Templeton’s class is going to visit Olympia on February 14, 2008. They are learning about state government. In reading they are reading readers theater (The adventurers). In writing, they are writing pourquoi style. They are writing stories about cave adventures. In math they are working on partial product.

Mrs.Woodward’s class
Mrs.Woodward’s class is having a water unit in science. In reading they are reading readers theater.

Mrs.Schmidt’s class
Mrs.Schmidt’s class is working on multi digit partial product multiplication problems in math.

Sixth Grade by Griffin

The entire sixth grade is working on Geometry in math. They are reading “On Turtles Backs”. It is an Native American legend. They are also starting Persuasive writing and Mixtures and Solutions in science.

In Social Studies, Mr. Anderson’s class is studying Europe and Mrs. Powell’s class is studying The Carribean. Mrs. Eisele is reading about the U.S. and Canada.
